COLOSSIANS 3:17.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

TO PONDER

What’s your usual daily routine look like? Do you often think that yours is perhaps boring, mundane, or that what you do each day is so unimportant in the scheme of things that you would probably be embarrassed to have to sit down and explain your day to anyone? We may not be an important or key figure in our place of employment. We may not be leaders or hold positions of significant relevance to people around us, or those we work with. In fact, we may not even be in positions of employment but rather our role may be a mother, a father, a house-person, a carer, a volunteer, a retiree, a nana or a pa. Perhaps we fill multiple roles from this list.

Paul’s message today in Colossians to us as brothers and sisters in Christ, has no qualifying features or requirements what-so-ever that one needs to meet for it to be applicable to them! It is not limited to any particular nationalities, levels or standard of education, certain vocations, or positions in society, whether employed or voluntary. It applies to us all.

Everything we do and think in every second of our day (and night for that matter) should be done in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The wave or the greeting that we give to a neighbour in our street or our local area, acknowledging, speaking to, or making a financial contribution to the homeless person that we may encounter. The engagement we have with colleagues, children, grand-children or fellow commuters. How we go about the mundane chores that are required to be completed, the lead-up thoughts, ideas and conversations we may strike-up around the coffee room in our place of work or our local café, supermarket or the medical appointments, hair dressing visits we keep or other errands we perform.

Absolutely everything we think and do, whether big or small, is an opportunity to ensure that it is infused by God’s character within us. Are you carrying out everything you do in the name of Jesus and for His glory?

PRAYER: Our Saviour Jesus. Thank you for every thought, deed, action or word that fills my every-day as a disciple on this earth. Keep me mindful of the importance of even the most menial tasks I have, or the many situations that you may place me in as I go about my day. Help me to let your light shine through me brightly in absolutely everything I do. I give thanks to You Lord for being Your child.   Amen.
