COLOSSIANS 3:17

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

TO PONDER

What is the purpose of your life? It's not an insignificant question. In fact, it is a question every person has to grapple with at some point or another and the way we answer it has potential to really shape who we are and who we become.

Because our purpose is not simply found in our occupation. You might argue that the purpose of being a doctor or surgeon is to alleviate suffering and save lives, but you might also be able to answer the questions another, more self centred way - to earn a lot of money.

How we perceive our purpose has some role in helping us determine what we do but the deeper thing it influences is why we do it.

So how does your dedication to Jesus influence they way you do your job, or interact with others on the train or in the office? How does doing everything in the name of Jesus help you to bring glory to him, to give thanks to God and to help others know the love of God which you already know?

It doesn't matter what your occupation is, it doesn't matter your age, your ethnicity, your gender or any other personal trait you might like to use to distinguish one person from another, the purpose we have is to bring glory to Jesus and give thanks to God for all he has done. So how will you do that in all the tasks you have to accomplish today?

PRAYER: Father God, There are so many things need to be attended to each day. Often the busyness leads me to forget that you are with me and that in everything I do there is an opportunity to do it in a way that glorifies you and helps others encounter you through me. Please help me to keep my eyes on that reality and to do everything I do today in your name and for your glory. Amen
