And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
I'm pretty sure I've talked about this before, but it's worth remembering. Given that we have been home with our kids a lot more recently, I can't help but notice how easily they are affected by advertising. Almost every few minutes I hear, "Dad, I want one of those" or, "Dad, could we get that. That looks so cool". We are trying to teach our children the difference between 'wants' and 'needs' and how to 'want' the right things. It's a hard job these days with the world outside your house telling you that every desire you have is a need that should be filled. Try telling an 8 year old boy that he does not need a Nintendo Switch, or a pre-teen daughter that she does not need a mobile phone. Sometimes we can get like that with God. We expect him to deliver everything we want but he has promised only to deliver everything we need. There is great freedom that comes when you are confident your needs will always be met; the problem for most of us is that we think we need much more than we actually do. What is great about God though, is that so often he meets our needs and exceeds out expectations with his generosity. So don't let your wants and desires stop you from recognising God's generous providence of all your needs.
Heavenly Father, you are the creator and sustainer of all good things and whether I am always prepared to admit it or not, you know my needs better than I do myself. Help me to grow in trusting that you know what my needs are and that you know what is best for me, even when I think differently. Thank you for all the ways you meet my daily needs. Amen
